Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Ashley Main is an Architectural Lighting Designer with more than a decade of experience across North America. She currently works within SMP Engineering's in house lighting design studio, where she creates thoughtful and sustainable lighting solutions for commercial, cultural, and public environments.
Ashley's creative foundation began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Calgary, eventually leading her to New York City to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design at the Parsons School of Design. Immersed in the city's creative energy, she built a strong foundation in both conceptual and technical design before beginning her early professional work there.
Her career then carried her to Central Texas, where she led custom blown glass lighting projects and art installations, and later supported commercial and institutional designs throughout the Austin–San Antonio region. She expanded her practice further through national work, contributing to hospitality focused projects across the United States.
Now back in Calgary, Ashley serves as Vice President of the IES Calgary Section, supporting education, mentorship, and community building within the region's lighting design community.
