With over more than 29 years in the lighting and electrical industry, Dan's career has spanned general contractors, electrical distributors, and lighting agents before bringing him to SMP Engineering's in-house lighting design studio.

Beyond his day-to-day design work, he sits on the technical committee for Lighting Upgrades with the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) Calgary Section, which he currently leads as President. He also volunteers with the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) and serves on the LIRC Steering and Education Committees, and recently contributed to the revision of the IES document Upgrading Lighting Systems in Nonresidential Spaces (LP-9-26).

In his spare time, Dan enjoys gardening, fly fishing, ice fishing, and competitive gold panning.
