John graduated from the University of Alberta's electrical engineering program and began his career as an engineer-in-training with Wasnea Mah Engineering in 2006. He earned his professional engineer (P.Eng.) status in 2011 while at SMP and has now spent 19 years working as an electrical engineer.

Over that time, John has been fortunate to work across a remarkably broad range of projects, from commercial retail, offices, car dealerships, restaurants, grocery stores, and warehouses to institutional work including government buildings, hospitals, and health care facilities. He has genuinely enjoyed the variety and the different challenges each building type brings, and the many people he's met along the way have been one of the best perks of the job.

Outside of work, John has always loved being active. He has played golf since grade six and still loves it today, and his appetite for a challenge has led him to triathlons, surfing, snowboarding, and, more recently, trekking, including trips to Everest Base Camp and Patagonia. He also has a mechanical streak and a fascination with anything on two wheels: he's lovingly restored a 1976 Kawasaki KZ650, built bikes for his kids, and maintains a fleet of pedal bikes he happily services himself, taking them all out whenever the weather allows.
