John graduated from the University of Alberta electrical engineering department and began working as an engineer in training with Wasnea Mah Engineering in 2006. He earned his status as a professional Engineer (P. Eng) in 2011 working with SMP. In total he has been working as an electrical engineer for the past 19 years.
John has been incredibly fortunate to work on a broad range of projects; commercial retail buildings, offices spaces, car dealerships, restaurants, grocery store and warehouses as well as institutional facilities government buildings, hospitals and health care facilities. He has truly enjoyed the diversity of working on all the different types of buildings and the diverse challenges presented by each and has met some amazing people along the way from all walks of life — it's one of the best perks of the job.
Outside of work John has always loved physical activity. He has played the great game of golf since grade 6 and still loves everything about it today. His enjoyment of physical activity and challenging himself has led him into numerous hobbies including triathlons, surfing, snowboarding and as he gets a bit older, he's also enjoying trekking and recently went to Everest Base Camp and even more recently to Patagonia.
John has a mechanical side as well and is fascinated by anything that runs on two wheels. He has an old 1976 Kawasaki KZ650 motorcycle he's loved bringing back to life and now loves riding. He's also built a couple of bikes for his kids and has multiple pedal bikes that he really enjoys doing all his own maintenance on. When weather permits, he loves going for rides on all of them.
