SMP Engineering designed award-winning integrated lighting for Calgary's Crowfoot LRT Station, enhancing architecture with inconspicuous fixtures and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions.
SMP was engaged as the Electrical Engineer on this new LRT facility and platform, which included security, pay station, emergency power, daylighting control, and paging system.
The aesthetic appeal of the new station required an integrated lighting design to accentuate the architectural design and features of the building and exterior. Interior lighting design had to allow for maintenance of all lighting from a maximum of 12 feet in a high-volume space with 90% glass-contained wall. Lighting fixtures were incorporated into the structure and located in inconspicuous locations so as to respect the architecture. Transit platforms incorporated indirect lighting fixtures, similar to those in the indoor building, to provide a seamless transition to and from the station. Ceramic metal-halide lamp sources were utilized for all interior and exterior fixtures.
