
University of Lethbridge's Science Commons, a 387,500 ft² LEED Gold certified facility, brings together 8 science departments and 9,300 students in a collaborative space with cutting-edge labs and innovative lighting design by SMP Engineering.
Completed in 2019, the 387,500 ft2, LEED Gold Certified Science Commons Building is one of the most advanced facilities for teaching and researching the sciences in the country. Designed to accommodate eight science departments and 9,300 students, the building combines open research and teaching labs with collaboration spaces and shared equipment and facilities, to bring students and researchers together from different disciplines to consider research from various perspectives.
In addition to electrical engineering services, SMP, in collaboration with KPMB Architects and Stantec, created a cohesive and consistent lighting design utilizing luminaires to highlight the architecture throughout the facility.
