SMP Engineering retrofitted Tom Baker Cancer Centre's Vault 6, integrating new Varian TrueBeam technology with updated electrical systems and calming LED lighting for improved patient care.
The project scope was to replace the existing oncology machine (Linac) with a new technology (Varian TrueBeam machine), which required a retrofit of the existing vault to accommodate the new machine. The distribution, conduit system, power supply rooms, and storage areas required modification to suit the new and larger Varian machine. Each installation was unique and required a thorough investigation to confirm existing conditions. Reconfiguration of emergency-off switches, lighting control, CCTV, and intercom was required to suit the new layouts. New LED lighting, sky ceilings, and luminous virtual windows were installed to provide a warmer, less institutional feel.
