NorQuest College's Civic Employees Legacy Tower in downtown Edmonton has been renovated with modern classrooms, labs, study spaces, and an innovation centre, featuring energy-efficient LED lighting and updated power and communications systems.
Located in downtown Edmonton, the NorQuest Civic Employees Legacy Tower underwent a $37M renovation, transforming it into a modern space featuring classrooms, labs, study areas, offices, and an innovation centre. This project exemplifies an institutional facility combining teaching and office spaces throughout the tower, as well as gathering areas for students to meet and connect.
The renovation included upgrades to the power distribution and communication systems, along with the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting. Different lighting types were strategically used to distinguish various spaces and enhance the overall student experience. SMP provided electrical engineering services, including lighting, power distribution, and low-tension systems, all designed with energy efficiency in mind and in accordance with LEED standards and NECB.
The project also involved power studies, code reviews for life safety systems, and compliance with high-rise building requirements.
On the fifth floor, the new Innovation Studio was designed to foster closer connections with business, industry, and community organizations. The studio is fully equipped with power, audiovisual systems, a recording area, and a meeting room, serving as a testing ground for new ideas, business initiatives, and student activities.
