SMP Engineering provided electrical and lighting design for Saskatoon's River Landing, featuring sustainable office towers, public plaza, and retail spaces with stunning Saskatchewan River views.
Located in downtown Saskatoon, River Landing is a mixed-use development covering 2.85 acres on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. Included in the $300M development are two office towers (and a hotel and condominium — not designed by SMP), arranged around a central park-like plaza. All buildings provide generous river views while the plaza — the first in an office development in Saskatoon — serves as a public gathering space. Intended to become a destination within the city, this development is home to a variety of uses along the ground floors of all four buildings, including retail spaces, restaurants, amenity spaces, cafes, and lobby functions.
Completed in 2019, River Landing East Tower is a 180,000 ft², 13-storey tower. The 18-storey, 279,000 ft2 Nutrien Tower was completed in the fall of 2021, several years ahead of the original schedule. Both buildings are equipped with linear lines of programmable colour-changing LED lighting running down the tower facades.
Sustainability and energy efficiency have been key components of the River Landing Development project from the beginning, with both River Landing East and Nutrien Tower targeting LEED certifications.
