James began his career as an electrician and spent more than 30 years in the electrical trade, much of it as a general foreman running jobs and leading crews in the field. That hands-on experience gives him a strong understanding of how projects come together from both the field and consulting sides, a perspective he has brought to SMP Engineering over the past 8.5 years.

James takes pride in being hardworking, ambitious, and conscientious. He approaches his work thoughtfully and treats the people around him with respect and compassion, and he believes a good sense of humour goes a long way toward creating a positive, motivated team.

Outside of work, James enjoys playing and watching sports, especially hockey and NFL football, and spending time outdoors, whether that's fishing from his boat or simply enjoying nature. He has also taken up collecting records, and above all values time with his family and friends.
