SMP Engineering designed electrical systems for Calgary's Shane Homes YMCA, featuring diverse aquatic facilities, ice rinks, fitness areas, and community spaces in a nature-inspired setting.
Situated in the middle of a natural park, this 283,640 ft² facility is designed to complement the surrounding landscape. Amenities include a competition pool with a spectator viewing area, a leisure pool with a wave system and water slides, hot tubs, and a steam room. It also features a multi-purpose ice rink, a leisure ice rink, a gymnasium with three full courts and multi-purpose flooring, a fitness center, fitness/aerobics studios, a running/walking track, large and small rooms for studios, classrooms, and meeting spaces, as well as a daycare/child minding development center and food services.
Additional features include a 3,000 ft² self-service library with public seating and study space, an art studio and gallery space, a theatre with seating for approximately 300, a physiotherapy/medical clinic, and a pro shop. Outdoor recreation areas will include a basketball court, pathways and nature trails, play structures, and a skateboard park.
