Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion


At SMP, we believe diverse perspectives drive stronger ideas, better outcomes, and a more innovative engineering industry. Inspired by APEGA’s 30 by 30 initiative, which aims for women to represent 30 percent of professional engineers by 2030, we are proud to support this goal through our Women in Engineering Scholarship. We have pledged $50,000 over five years to empower female students pursuing engineering careers at the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta.

Our commitment extends to ongoing initiatives that promote equity and access in engineering. Each year, we offer paid internships to students from local post-secondary institutions, helping bridge the gap between education and professional practice. We have supported recognition of student leadership and academic excellence through programs such as the Innovator Award at the University of Lethbridge. We also previously mentored senior engineering students at the University of Calgary through multi-disciplinary capstone projects, providing hands-on guidance and industry insight.

SMP is also a proud Gold Sponsor of Women in Consulting Engineering (WCE), a community dedicated to supporting and empowering women in engineering and increasing gender diversity and inclusion across the industry.

Through these efforts and more, we’re helping build a more inclusive future; one that values talent, encourages growth, and reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
