Q: What is (are) the most interesting item(s) in your desk top drawer?
A: A 64 GB USB drive. Look at it this way: when SMP was first established in 1972, this much data would have taken up around 1000 square feet of floor space, filled with racks of IBM disk drives from that era. Probably millions of dollars. Now it’s junk in my desk!
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
A: Time traveller. But to avoid some sort of paradox where I duplicate myself or make my own existence impossible, it’s only that I am able to move time forwards and backwards within my own lifetime. Like “rewind” and “fast forward” features. Like “ah jeez I just stepped in dog poop” – rewind. “This meeting is so boring” – fast forward.
I just asked ChatGPT if there is a term for this and it said “personal temporal manipulation”. I googled that to see if it was actually a thing and landed on literally the Wikipedia of Superpowers.Q: If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be, and why?
A: It would be fun to swap lives within someone controversial. Like Elon Musk. What would I tweet? Do I experience him and his thoughts as an observer inside his head, or does my consciousness take over his body? Maybe I’d tweet something like “hey guys I am living in Elon Musk’s body today”. Nobody would suspect a thing.
