Duties & Responsibilities

As a Senior Electrical Engineer / Senior Electrical Designer, you will have the following impact on the organization:

  • Lead the project team with the design of electrical systems for various building facilities.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design and supporting calculations which may include single line drawings, feeder sizing, panel and distribution board sizing, motor control schedules, fault and voltage drop calculations.
  • Designs may include power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), power generation, controls, life safety (i.e., fire alarm, public address, and nurse call), voice/data communications and basic security/CCTV systems and lighting calculations.
  • Assist in checking drawings for dimensional and graphic accuracy, design suitability and adherence to drawing standards.
  • Prepare drawings in AutoCAD / Revit, interfacing with clients, contractors and sales reps, preparing project documentation, and coordinating with other engineering disciplines. You may able be responsible for conducting site visits/reviews and assisting with contract administration.
  • Lead an internal team through a variety of projects concurrently.
  • Work collaboratively with clients to meet project needs.
Requirements

On your resume, we will be looking for the following qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional experience
  • Registered as C.E.T, P.Eng., P.L.(Eng.), P.Tech or A.Sc.T. (equivalent experience in similar roles will also be considered).
  • Past commercial, retail, office, residential and institutional project experience (oil and gas experience will not be considered).
  • Working knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal electrical and building codes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and open to sharing ideas.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

As an Electrical Contract Administrator, you will support our Edmonton team with the following:

  • Represent the client’s best interest in a fair and reasonable manner in coordinating the design intent and drawing specification package with the electrical contractor on the Engineer’s behalf.
  • Be responsible for issuing changes, site instructions, RFI’s, etc. as required to facilitate the client’s demands and on-site challenges as they arise.
  • Provide technical expertise to review on-site construction from a design outlook while noting any instances which may contravene the Canadian Electrical code, building code, fire code, or applicable governing bodies.
  • Ensure that all shop drawings are reviewed for accuracy and design intent.
  • Attend scheduled site meetings.
  • Review site progress and issue field reports, as required.
  • Review monthly progress claims and change pricing.
  • Witness fire alarm verifications on engineer’s behalf and ensure accuracy of documentation is maintained.
  • Review record drawings / O&M’s from the Electrical Contractor prior to sending to Owner.
  • Monitor projected Contract Administration hours for a project and report any discrepancies to management.
  • Be able to make on-site design decisions and follow up with necessary documentation.
  • Document existing site conditions for design and/or report preparation.
  • Install recording meters and download results for engineer review and report generation.

This role may require the individual to work outside regular business hours and involves occasional overtime, as required, to complete project (testing) witnessing/reviews.

Requirements

On your resume, we will be looking for the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of industry (construction) experience at the foreman level; Current knowledge of all aspects of the commercial electrical industry preferred.
  • Must hold an Electrical Journeyman certificate within the province of Alberta or an inter-provincial seal.
  • This role will focus on large-scale projects. Candidates who have completed large-scale, long-term projects will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in project management and coordination of projects including: site personnel, schedule, and scope.
  • Basic computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Bluebeam.
