SMP is providing comprehensive electrical engineering services for the Stuart Lake Hospital Redevelopment in Fort St. James, BC. This 6,300m2, $125M facility is designed to enhance healthcare services for the local community and surrounding First Nations, including the Takla Lake First Nation, Tl’azt’en Nation, Binche Whut’en First Nation, Nak’azdli Whut’en, and Yekooche First Nation.
The hospital will accommodate nine acute care beds, 18 long-term care beds, an expanded emergency department, medical imaging, support services, and a primary care clinic. SMP's scope includes designing power distribution systems to ensure critical operations, implementing lighting solutions that optimize patient care and staff efficiency, and incorporating advanced life safety infrastructure to meet stringent healthcare standards. Energy-efficient technologies and adaptable systems are integrated to promote sustainability and resilience.
Phase 1 of the hospital achieved substantial completion in October 2024, with patient move-in scheduled for January 2025. Phase 2, involving the demolition of the old facility and final site works, is underway and expected to be completed by September 2025.
