Completed in 2019, the 387,500 ft2, LEED Gold Certified Science Commons Building is one of the most advanced facilities for teaching and researching the sciences in the country. Designed to accommodate eight science departments and 9,300 students, the building combines open research and teaching labs with collaboration spaces and shared equipment and facilities, with the goal of bringing students and researchers together from different disciplines to consider research from various perspectives.
In addition to electrical engineering services, SMP, in collaboration with KPMB Architects and Stantec, created a cohesive and consistent lighting design utilizing luminaires to highlight the architecture throughout the facility.
