Electrical Engineering Consulting Services & Specialty Lighting Design

Originally constructed in 1914, the St. Louis Hotel has been an iconic landmark in Calgary’s East Village for over 100 years. The redevelopment provided mixed-use office and retail space and SMP completed the base building upgrades, as well as the 2nd and 3rd floor CMLC tenant fit-out.

The project goal was to leave as much of the existing building intact to provide a rustic feel and the design team focused on accenting the original ceilings and brick work utilizing creative lighting solutions, while also minimizing the visual impact of modern electrical services. SMP maintained the budget by utilizing industrial grade lamp holders and state of the art LED lamps to provide warm light with a historical feel. In the more modern office spaces, cooler color temperatures and higher illumination levels were provided.

Using an integrated approach, the design team restored and modernized the building systems while maintaining the building’s historic charm.
